12 Sep 2024

Shanghai, 12 September. The inaugural edition of Premium Audio Shanghai (PAS) will draw curtains from 13 – 15 September 2024 at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre (SEC), offering attendees a nuanced exploration of audio technologies shaping the landscape of the Chinese market. With a growing base of middle-class music enthusiasts in the region, the exhibition will showcase a range of high-fidelity solutions at the intersection of music and technology, catering to the refined tastes of consumers in search of sound quality and advanced features. The product display will be further enhanced by an experiential fringe programme spotlighting music healing and smart technology, designed for commercial, cultural, and wellness applications. Co-organised by Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd and Shanghai Computer Music Association (SCMA), this event is poised to become a new focal point for the audio industry in China.

Welcoming a new era of sound innovation, driven by 5G technology and artificial intelligence, the first-ever Premium Audio Shanghai aims to spark conversation and build momentum by bringing together the world’s leading audio brands, showcasing technologies with unique features.

Beyerdynamic will present its limited edition, closed-back design studio headphones, the DT 770 Pro X, in celebration of the brand’s 100th anniversary. Meanwhile, Apogee’s display marks four successful decades of business with its Groove Anniversary Edition, a portable decoding headphone amplifier. Additionally, Rupert Neve Designs is set to display its flagship product, a new Fidelice series tailored for enhanced performance to meet the needs of HiFi users.

Other notable brands include AMS Neve, Amphion, CB Electronics, CHECKITECH, Kali Audio, McIntosh, Milab, MOGAMI, Mutec Vanguard Audio, Myburgh, Primacoustic, Radial, reProducer, REMIC, Sonus Faber, and Wes Audio, and many more.

Speaking ahead of the fair’s opening, Ms Judy Cheung, Deputy General Manager, Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, commented: “Distinctly positioned from other large-scale trade fairs, our conference-led exhibition allows brands to engage directly with their customers and gain insights into individual needs in professionally designed showrooms. Visitors will be able to experience the true quality of sound systems at the showcase, while deepening their understanding of the audio industry’s transformation through the integration of IoT, AI, and 5G technology at the fringe programme. As technology’s influence on music continues to grow, the fair is committed to helping businesses navigate this changing landscape. We have strived to create a dynamic platform that provides essential technological know-how and vital market insights, and creates business opportunities to set industry players on the path to success.”

Technology-driven fringe events outline prospects for the industry

Showcasing music’s role beyond aesthetic leisure, the highlight of the fringe programme is the 2024 Global Forum on Music, Artificial Intelligence, and Health. The forum, taking place on 13 – 14 September, is co-organised by Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd and Shanghai Computer Music Association (SCMA), supported by the SCMA Digital Music Therapy Committee, Intelligent Music Engineering Committee of the Shanghai Association for Artificial Intelligence, and the Innovative Team of Top-tier Shanghai Universities (Theoretical and Practical Research on Music Aesthetic Education). Co-hosted by Earmersion and the United Nations University Artificial Intelligence (UNU AI) Network, the event will delve into novel technologies and solutions for enhancing mental and physical well-being.

A series of panels will address key topics that shape the outlook of audio and music, including:

  • Latest Technological Achievements in Music, AI, and Brain Science: several experts will discuss the latest breakthroughs at the intersection of music, AI, and brain science. Topics include AI-driven composition and personalised audio experiences.
  • How AI Music Empowers Cultural Tourism and Beauty Industries: with the goal of elevating customer experiences, speakers will delve into how music influences emotions across different settings – whether it is enhancing the sense of wonder during a trip or alleviating anxiety at a wellness centre.
  • Youth Mental Health and Music Restoration: education and health specialists will contribute to the discussion on the application of music as an effective tool for providing emotional and psychological support to youth.
  • Effects of Music on Patients' Physical and Mental Health during Treatment: healthcare and music healing experts will examine the role of music  in medical settings and its impact on patient care from both physiological and psychological perspectives, highlighting its potential in alleviating pain, reducing anxiety, and enhancing overall well-being for patients.
  • Applications of Digital Healing Content on the Internet: the discussion brings together thought leaders to explore the role of internet platforms in delivering therapeutic audio experiences, such as restoration and mindfulness, while also examining the rise of the metaverse and its impact on digital music.

Spatial and immersive audio currently stand out as leading topics within the audio industry and creative and research communities. With advancements in multichannel technology and AI, spatial audio is increasingly within reach for the wider public. The Global Conference on Spatial and Immersive Audio Technologies, another key highlight of the fair, will delve into the precise placement of individual sounds by sound designers and music creatives, crafting immersive soundscapes that envelop listeners and mimic real-life auditory experiences. Attendees can explore the full potential of spatial audio for a truly captivating auditory experience.

Fairgoers will also have the opportunity to experience NIO's automotive audio products and take a test drive at the show, experiencing the impressive capabilities of its Dirac Pro system. This advanced system accurately captures the acoustic fingerprint of the cabin’s sound system through precise measurements and utilises innovative “mixed-phase sound field control technology”, ensuring a premium auditory experience on every ride.

Additionally, visitors can create their own custom vinyl decorations, and browse a growing selection of health-related accessories at the Wellness Market, where therapeutic goods and other stress relief products will be available for purchase.
